Netflix has officially announced the release of Tejano Queen, a 10-episode documentary series chronicling the meteoric rise and heartbreaking end of Latin music icon Selena Quintanilla. Premiering globally on March 31, 2026 — the anniversary of her untimely death — the series promises an unfiltered, emotional journey through the life of a legend who transcended language, borders, and time.
Titled “Tejano Queen: The Rise and Tragic Death of Selena Quintanilla,” the docuseries dives deeper than ever before into Selena’s personal and professional life. From her humble beginnings in Texas to becoming the undisputed Queen of Tejano music, the series tracks her evolution as a cultural icon, fashion trailblazer, and global inspiration.
Directed by Eva Longoria and produced in collaboration with the Quintanilla family, the series offers unprecedented access to Selena’s journals, childhood recordings, and behind-the-scenes footage never before seen by the public. Family members, bandmates, and friends offer intimate recollections that paint a fuller picture of the woman behind the superstar.
Each episode tackles a different chapter of her life — her early struggles with identity, the rise of Selena y Los Dinos, her crossover into mainstream pop, and the events that led to her shocking death at just 23 years old. A special episode titled “Yolanda” will examine the betrayal and obsession that led to her murder by her fan club president, Yolanda Saldívar.
Netflix promises this isn’t just a tragedy retold — it’s a tribute. With original performances, restored footage, and a bilingual soundtrack curated by today’s top Latina artists, Tejano Queen celebrates the vibrancy of Selena’s legacy while confronting the pain of her loss.
