aling exploration of the tragic and controversial death of The Doors’ enigmatic frontman, Jim Morrison.
Morrison, known for his poetic lyrics, wild charisma, and chaotic genius, was found dead in a Paris apartment bathtub in 1971 at just 27 years old. No autopsy was ever performed, the cause of death was listed as heart failure — and the speculation hasn’t stopped since.
Directed by Asif Kapadia (Amy, Senna), the limited series will feature rare archival footage, interviews with friends, bandmates, and Parisian locals, as well as never-before-seen letters and journal entries Morrison wrote in the weeks leading up to his death. From theories about a secret heroin overdose to rumors of staged disappearance, “The Last Ride” peels back the myth to get to the man.
Netflix says the series will not only examine Morrison’s final days in Paris but also trace his psychological decline, growing paranoia, and disillusionment with fame. “This isn’t just about how he died,” Kapadia notes. “It’s about what was dying inside him long before his body gave out.”
The series will also touch on Morrison’s complex relationship with Pamela Courson, his controversial exit from the U.S. music scene, and how he sought peace — or escape — in Paris. It’s a story of genius, excess, and the elusive line between art and destruction.
“The Last Ride” will consist of four hour-long episodes and be accompanied by a Doors-inspired soundtrack, vinyl release, and special edition essays from music historians.
Set your reminder — this fall, Netflix brings you closer to the truth behind the legend. Was it an overdose, a cover-up, or something else entirely? In Morrison’s own words: “Death makes angels of us all.”
Streaming exclusively on Netflix – Fall 2026.
